Re: Uneven hoof development
Hi Maria,
Depends on the individual horse. Some things to consider:
- lateral wall is flared so sole appears wider to compensate
- medial heel run further forward, twisting hoof capsule laterally

Uneven hoof development
Hi all!
Do you know what´s the reason for an uneven hoof development when you see it from it´s sole view? When I pick up the hoof (it is a hind one and barefoot) and divide it in a straight line

Re: Need advice please re Savannah’s Jan 22 trim photos
That's strange customs held it so long, Pat. I've been getting vitE, jiaogulan and just recently ALCAR from my best horse (4 separate orders over the last year) and I find it takes about 2 weeks.

Re: Need advice please re Savannah’s Jan 22 trim photos
Yes, you can use the alcar intended for humans but it's not cost effective or simple. Horse dosing is 1g/100lbs body weight, so for an average 1000lb horse that's 10g.
As it's usually in 500mg capsule

LJ
I dont give anything for pain. Wears boots when required. Jaiagulan BID is all she gets that might help with pain. Bute and Previcox aren’t recommended for IR horses.

Re: Rock hard hoof
I use a full size, 20v angle grinder with a 4.5in, 40 grit flap disc much of the time - which makes really quick work of things.
I've used a 10.8v cordless dremel, with the coarsest flap wheel

Hi Pat,
Frustrating for both you and Savannah, I'm sure, as you've done so much to help her get better. Because Savannah is PPID/IR all discussions regarding her should remain on the main group -

Hoping to get advice with regards to how Savannah’s trims are going. We must be doing something wrong. Still very underrun and never seems to be any improvement. Can’t seem to bring the heels

Re: Rock hard hoof
Years ago, I remember my farriers complaining about hooves that were too hard to use a knife on. Soaking can definitely help if you can mange it.
Power tools, however, don't care so adding a grinder

Re: Rock hard hoof
Jessica, Deb is right, the general advice is to soak the hoof to soften it before trimming. You'll have to experiment with how long to soak. I feel your pain though, my boy's feet get rock hard in
