Re: Footings for turn out area
I have this problem too where I have a hay feeder on pea gravel. The hay fines get mixed into the pea gravel. I've used a little metal garden sieve to separate them, but it is very time consuming

Thank you Cindy! (from one of "those friends") The yellow pads last well. Comparable to the Easycare red pads.

I've used a few different ones and the yellows seem to be suitable for a few different needs/types. Used it on both ponies and horses up to 16.1 and it lasts reasonably well on the horses as

I saw a video lately where a woman "sifted" the soiled stones through hardware cloth. She used a piece about 3 feet by two feet and rolled up the edges so she could hold it. She dumped the "clean"

I did the pea gravel and was very very happy with it and the horses feet looked great! However, over time, organic matter deteriorates and combines with the pea stone and retains moisture, making it

Lavinia,
As expected, my trimmer was outraged and insulted at your critique of his work. He said Oden’s hooves are most definitely not underun, and you are a charlatan.
Can you direct me to any

While there is always a remote possibility that something more dire is happening, generally, it makes sense to assume horses, rather than Zebras, when you hear hoof beats. When the toes get too long

Thank you so much, Lavinia. I posted about this in the Hoof Care and Rehab group on FB, and I got alarming responses! Including PPSM, PPID, sacroiliac issues, Vitamin E deficiency, ataxic,

Re: Concerned about hooves. Pics.
Hi Cindy,
You can't upload videos to the group. Best thing is to put it up on You-tube, then provide the link.
Take a breath - this isn't anything serious, it's just Mother Nature doing what's needed.

Concerned about hooves. Pics.
I just added hoof pictures to Oden's photo album. Also his case history is up to date. I also have a video of him walking just after the trim if I can figure out how to get it in the album.

Just an FYI - I added pasture results to Prophecy's case history in a new folder. Soil sample was sent in, will post that when I get it!

Hi Lavinia,
I sent you 4 separate emails with pics to upload. Obviously will have to re-do once his shoes come off...still trying to get that sorted out.
Thanks!

Re: cracking hooves
will do - I'll get them labeled and emailed tomorrow from work on the fast internet connection :P Hope you don't have a size limit to emails, but I'll probably send in grouping of foot to be safe.
