Oh , I agree with you - I was giving a simplifiedversion. It most likely grows in unison downward and forward from the solecorium and the bars to create the sole. However , I am not so sure I agree

is covered in solar corium which produces the sole horn in a downward

Our farrier has been helping me learn to maintain Cassie's feet
between his 6-week visits and is nice enough to keep me set up with a
good Heller rasp.

I would agree with that completely. In my opinionsbars are often over trimmed anyway. Unless they are grossly laid over, in whichcase they might affect the horse negatively, I think bars are there for

The sole grows from the bars forward and sidewaysand yes, a sinking CB will flatten the sole. It can only regain concavity withthe right diet, correct trim and adequate exercise.

I amnot Abby, but I am a huge fan of the Heller Black master Rasp (1st choice, notcheap) and the Heller Legend as my second choice. Now that said they havebeen switched recently to OUT OF COUNTRY

Abby,
You mentioned that you like a sharp rasp. The ones I can get from a
local tack store are not very sharp (or inexpensive). Are there any

old shop vac to groom them and that's pretty noisy and big scary, but
