Good for you, Cass! To get her to the point she is now sounds essentially like getting her back to the point of being ridden. No surprise the fronts are more problematic than the hinds. That's where

Just anecdotally, I have an 18yo 1100-1150 lb Paint with small coffin bones relative to her muscle-bound build. Fortunately when she came to me, she still had healthy digital cushions. For comparison,

Do you have radiographs with navicular views? Can you post hoof photos? Does he land toe first? The problem you describe is almost the norm in the QH to some extent. I once asked Dr. Bowker if it is

Hi All!
A few months back, I acquired a ten year old quarterhorse that has the small feet, big muscles and refined head favored by those who show in halter. He had very underun heels, migrated

Hi Barbara,
Sorry, I'll need to post the photo for you as this group only allows Moderators to post photos.
When you take the photo, try not to get too close to the foot with the camera as that

I certainly agree with everything Lavinia said. There also appears to possibly be a defect in the coronary band at the top of that crack. Could you shave off the overhanging hair and take a picture

Re: Vertical split in hoof wall
Hi Barbara,
I've added a few mark-ups to Mist's album:
https://ecir.groups.io/g/Hoof/album?id=278973
You are dealing with a quarter crack, which results from significant imbalances in the hoof capsule

Re: Best hoof stand- size?
HI Amy
My trimmer has I think a pony size? It's definitely shorter than mine which is a regular size. Small one is perfect for horses who can't pick their feet up very high. My trimmer is 5ft tall.

Barbara my gelding has a split similar to this, I’ve had him for probably eleven years, since he was six and he had it when I purchased him. It’s never bothered him, it filled in but I guess

Used Cloud Boots size 3
I have a used pair of Clouds, size 3. They’re too big for my horse. They are used but still have life left in them. If you’d like to “use them up”, I’d be glad to send them to you.

Hi Barbara,
Send this link to your trimmer:
