i am asking for a friends horse who has side bone and is making him not sound. she has a good farrier and he is in shoes for side bone but remains not sound; better with bute but not long lasting; former eventer but now only flat work. do you have any suggestions for her. thank you, daisy and tiko
Generally, side bone doesn't make a horse unsound but will make movement less fluid if it is severe.
Shoes aren't going to help - side bone is calcification of the lateral cartilage. Getting the trim as balanced as possible is the first step toward making the best of it.
Would need to see the rads and a set of hoof pix to be able to make any more comments.
I have been wondering about side bone on my horse, Taxi. Have xrays and pics. Where do i upload them, for this group? Have not done a case study on him yet. He is IR, getting blood done in Aug to see if he is Cushings. I am a trimmer that has a few of my clients listed on the ECIR group.
Because your horse is IR, all his info gets posted in the Case History group - pix and rads go in an album there in the Photos section. Then just post a note on the main group that you would like an eval.
