Hoof Workshops - NW Arkansas, Sept 2019

Cindy M

Hey everyone, if you live in NW Arkansas, SW Missouri, SE Kansas or NE Oklahoma, and you would like to learn more about hooves and trimming, Ida Hammer of Whole Horse Hoofcare, will be teaching at my farm near Fayetteville, AR (USA) Sept 28-29, 2019.

Saturday, we will have a lecture, with photos, preserved leg and bone specimens, called, "Exploring the Equine Hoof."   https://mackinawdells2.com/exploring-the-equine-hoof.html

Sunday will be a hands-on workshop (with audit options) Beginner Trimming. Learn to analyze a cadaver hoof, handle tools, do a basic trim. Or watch someone else do it!!  https://mackinawdells2.com/beginner-trimming.html

No, you do not have to go home and trim your own horses. But you CAN become an INFORMED CONSUMER of hoofcare services.

The Sunday workshop has "working" and "audit" options. Working participants will learn to analyze a hoof and do a basic trim. Using cadaver hooves. You will learn how to use tools, a rasp, a hoof knife, hoof nippers. What gear is necessary for your safety and the safety of the horse.

(Tools and gear are available on loan for the day - you need not go shopping, just to learn.)

The instructor is knowledgeable, skilled, passionate and an outstanding instructor. A rare combination!!  She has rehabbed many laminitic horses and is a supporter of ECIR philosophy and protocols. She has attended a No Laminitis! conference.

Thanks to learning from Ida Hammer, I took our donkey's feet from this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/hkDPmzHQfz8qWeXb7

to this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/YyzmnWpz43YhZxPa9

Perfect? No. His feet had been distorted and suffered internal structural changes from years of neglect. But he is not lame, he can walk and trot and zoom around comfortably. Before learning from Ida, I never imagined I could do something like this.

If you enjoy these introductory workshops and decide to "geek out," and become a "hoof nerd," we will host more advanced (and fascinating workshops) next year.

Contact me privately, if you have questions. maddogranch@...

Way to go, Cindy, on your trimming! Impressive. Wish I were close enough to attend as I would surely enjoy it. I've not heard of Ida Hammer but will research for more info. We are always eager to learn more to get better for our wonderful companions.

If you have any interest in learning more about how feet work, attending one of Ida's or Pete's workshops is well worth the price of admission.
