Hi All
I am looking for some help with our 10 year old geldings feet.
Duke was purchased 8/30 and vetted out sound. He had been wearing shoes for probably his whole life and had no issues that we knew of. After shoes came off he became very sore and we have been dealing with it ever since. Initially he had very thin soles, contracted heels, bad thrush. Our barefoot trimmer saw him shortly after shoes came off and has seen him every 4 weeks.
We have been in cloud boots almost 24/7 since shoes came off. A few weeks ago we were able to start riding while wearing Scoot Boots. However, now his high/low issue has become pronounced enough that he can no longer wear his Scoots.
He is taking jiaogulan, california Trace, vitamin E, magnesium, salt and cissus with his feed. I am actively trying to get him off his feed, just having to convince barn manager he won’t die without grain. He gets about 10 hours of turnout a day.
Glue on shoes were put on last Wednesday after it became apparent the scoot boots could not be worn anymore. He seems comfortable in them. He is in light work with my daughters riding him 2-3 times a week.
Thanks so much and let me know if you need any more info.
