Deb, yes I’d like to see your photos. Thanks. I appreciate your experience around the use of these, Lavinia. I can see how they have the potential to fail based on what you described. Anyone have any positive results using these?

I have had the same experience, a thicker pad may make the boot unstable and not fit as well if it is a thicker pad than the depth of the boot can handle. Thats a good idea using softride pads in a cloud boot. I have the same problem not being able to keep softrides on my horse.
Recently I have been gluing terri cloth onto my hoof pads to help stimulate the sole. I use hooftight glue and the terri cloth stays on the pad for a week or so before it starts to come off. Then when you do take off the terri cloth it seems to pop off without damaging the pad. My IR horse foundered badly15 months ago - steroid induced, so it was a complicated one. Today his rotation is reversed and he is much more comfortable - able to walk on concrete without boots. But I still use boots most days during turn out in an effort to help the internal structures heal and hope to get his sole thicker. I read about terri cloth being the most stimulating to blood flow in the foot, so have been experimenting with that. It might be just enough thicker to help your boots fit. You can leave a border of terri cloth to wrap around the hoof wall to take up space. Just a thought.... Heidi |

Gigi...I added the formahoof pics (3) to my photos. It might work for some horses. It didn't work for Scotty because he needed the thicker/cushion under his feet. I give my *then* farrier all the credit for looking at alternative options. It just didn't work for us.
Heidi - That has been my experience as well in trying to add more cushion to a boot. It was unstable, and didn't fit on the back side of the foot like it should. I experimented a LOT with soft kitchen sponge material cut up and packed in where the boot was too wide/etc. Not a lot of success there either. Right now, Scotty is doing EXCELLENT in Cloud boots with Soft Ride inserts. |

I'm not sure why my address or links were not available in the past posts? Hope they show up here.

Sometimes they don't show up for who-knows-what reason. They've been there on most of your posts, Deb, so no worries.

Thanks Lavinia!!
So Gigi, I hope you got to see the photos. They seemed like a *good thing to try* but just did not work out for Scotty. -- Deb and Scotty I/R Probably PPID Northwest Illinois, May 13, 2019 Case History: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Deb%20and%20Scotty Photos: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=90619 |
