Re: Question on balancing high Iron w/ copper

Linda Martin

Let me double check that I understand: only 90mg of copper per 5 lbs
of hay can be ingested? Meaning if my Cu is 20mg/5 lbs of hay, then
the max I can add is 70mg/5 lbs. If I feed 17 lbs of hay then the
most Cu I can add is 17 lbs fed hay/5 lbs hay x 70 mg/5 lbs = 238 mg Cu?
The hay is not any dustier the most hays I've ever had. They are both
teff, w/ similar high iron: 278ppm & 262 ppm. Grown about 30 miles
apart, by different farmers using different equipment.

Thanks for the help.
