You caught my attention....I have high manganese in my hay (394ppm). I am trying to get "up" to the balance point but keep having to stall increasing amounts because of palatibility of the feed.

My mare is showing signs of abscess...

Are high manganese and abcesses related???

I doubt that you can draw a straight line from high Mn to abscesses, but if you just think of the whole picture - i.e., nutritional balance, and how that affects overall health, you'll certainly want to get your trace minerals in balance, or as near as possible. I would be thinking more along the lines of what caused the abscessing in the first place such as stretched white line, laminitis, hoof wall flaring from inadequate trims, etc.
