Hi Donna,

Sorry to hear your girl is having trouble. Do you have a case history up for her? How was she diagnosed as having arthritis? How old is she? How long since she had an ACTH test to check how well her PPID is being controlled? Many instances of suspected arthritis in a PPID horse are actually subclinical laminitis issues that mimic arthritis due to the PPID being less than well controlled. What form is her pergolide (powder, capsule, liquid, Prascend)? How is her appetite in general?

Here is the link to ECHistory8, where we store the latest case histories. I'll send you an invite to join to make it easier for you:

If this is indeed arthritis, and her PPID is well controlled, plain Devil's Claw is OK. Could try Uckele's PhytoQuench (although it has a strong smell that some horses object to), Mov-Ease ( http://www.mybesthorse.com ) , chondroitin + HA.

NSAIDs like bute and firocoxib are bigger guns and require a script from your vet, but need to balance the risks of long-term use with the benefits.

We ask that you add your general location and year of joining the group to your signature as this helps us to help you better.

Hang in there, we'll help you get this sorted out.
