Re: Cushings or Not
Maggie
Hi Pamela, You are welcome, and good on you for researching! If I had a penny for every thing I know now that I wish I knew before finding this group, I would be a rich woman, LOL!! And I see that Dr Kellon answered your specific question, so you have the word from the horse's mouth! I sent you an invite to join ECH8. That may make joining easier. Once you know you have Bayamo's DDT under tight control, if he is still having issues with arthritis, you may want to consider some arthritis treatment. I would avoid glucosamine as that can worsen IR. I know that you said his IR test came back normal, but what may be normal to the lab, may not be normal to us. Did you put the numbers into the IR calculator? Here's a link to the some files that may interest you on IR. The first file in this folder is the IR calculator. You can just plug your numbers in and see what you come up with. And below is a post from Nancy with some links to messages from Dr. Kellon on pain management. Lots of folks have seen an improvement with a product called Move-Ease, available from http://mybesthorse.com/ Another product is Uckele's PhytoQuench. Again, want to make sure your DDT is tight, especially the trim, which is often the last piece of the puzzle to fall into place. Once you join ECH8, you are welcome to post pictures of Bayamo's feet in the PHOTOS section for one of our hoof specialists to look at and make sure that your trim is optimal. Here's a site that shows how to take good hoof pictures: http://www.all-natural-horse-care.com/good-hoof-photos.html Here's the message from Nancy: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/EquineCushings/conversations/messages/186858 Hang in there! There is a LOT to learn, but it does get easier! Maggie, Chancey and Spiral in VA March 2011 EC Primary Response http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ECHistory4/files/maggie%20in%20virginia/ |
