Re: Can Cushing's tumor cause nose bleed
janieclougher@...
HI, Karin - It is pretty much impossible to say what is going on
without more information. I can, however, give you a list of
differentials, ie, what can possibly cause nose-bleeds and lumps.
Nosebleeds: trauma; nasal infection; nasal tumour; guttural pouch
infection; potentially, anti-clotting meds (ie, if he was getting a
couple of types of NSAIDs, plus a big whack of J-herb - essentially an
overdose). Oh - meant to mention bleeding from the lungs (exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage), but I doubt he is indulging in enough heavy exercise to cause that.
Infections are more common in horses whose Cushings is not controlled, because Cushings suppresses the immune system. Lumps can be anything from benign lumps to vaccine reactions to melanomas to malignant cancers. If the lump is actually visible (which it must be) it can't possibly be a brain tumour. A brain tumour would kill the horse or person long before it blew through the skull and became visible from the outside. I
suspect you are in a position where you can't really do anything to
change Goya's situation, without buying him back from the rescue group,
which I realize is not an option. It was extremely generous of you to offer financial help for him, and I am sorry they turned that down. This must be very difficult for you.Jaini (BSc,BVSc),Merlin,Maggie,Gypsy BC09 EC moderator https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/ groups/ECHistory/files/Jaini% 20Clougher%2C%20Smithers%20BC/
....My question: Is it possible that the pituitary tumor causing the Cushing's is also causing the bleeding/lump?
Or is it more likely that Goya just continues to have bad luck and a second brain tumor has nothing to do with the Cushings/ EPSM/IR he developed during the few years I cared for him?
