If the donation situation you are considering would be just for a few days,
perhaps if you just want the students to have the opportunity to see a
Cushings horse, see they could travel to your farm if it is not too far
away. Then have Star euthanized at home.

I would suggest calling the vet school being considered for donation.
Find out what their procedures are. The Purdue Vet School in
Lafayette, IN specifically told me also that they hold the horse for
examination for a few days and then humanely euthanise it, no "weird"
experimentation. All the people there seemed very caring.

students, then humanely euthanise and perform a necropsy to
look for associated lesions,
Is this pretty much true for most vet colleges? That is my biggest
worry (not that Star is my horse) - that something unpleasant or
painful would be done to her prior to her death or euthanisia.
