Hi...
I have four miniatures, two @ 36" and two @ 32". One of the larger ones can eat grass from the time it peaks up through the snow until six foot drifts, with no problems whatsoever, but the others, I have to gradually bring them into it, or they get laminitis, but recover. I have a dry lot, and divided pastures, so I can control their individual pasture times.
My question is this: in the dry lot where the barn and windbreak are, there is a 30' diameter corral with spotty grass, some of which they don't want because of traffic.(estimate about 2/3 edible) I have some old carpeting I could cover that with, but I'm wondering if that is necessary, or is it a good taste for each to get their systems ready for beginning to put them out for short times? That comes to about 150-200 sq. ft. each in edible grass.
