I had a PPID mare here for 7 months last year. She was untreated and came to me with painful scratches on both hinds. I scissor clipped long hair, soaked and washed with mild soap daily. I found a product called Coat Defense, used the crmem which is the consistency of hoof packing and applied it daily. Her scratches were healed up in a week!
