ECIR Group 2021 NO Laminitis! Conference -- UPDATE 07.05.21

How good is a NO Laminitis! Conference? Pete Ramey gave this review after he attended the 2017 Conference in Tucson:

I just want to say thank you to all of the organizers and speakers. Too many times, I have spent my CE dollars and come home with nothing that I could take to the horse. Not this time.

I got such an increased understanding of PPID, IR, and laminitis. Plus, more than a dozen new ideas I want to try out in the dirt. I have a feeling that 10 years from now, looking back, this weekend will have been a "turning point" -- a defining moment in my own learning process and skill level.

You just can't put a dollar value on that — so just — thank you all.

Here we are four years later with Pete bringing some of his “in the dirt” research next month.

Pete Ramey, PHCP Practitioner/Clinician
Reading the Foot – Thinking Vertically. In the laminitic horse, understanding the current vertical location of the bones of the foot (relative to the hoof capsule and to sole thickness) can help eliminate some of the most critical errors in rehabilitation. This lecture will show attendees how external landmarks relate to radiographs; how to both estimate and measure the vertical relationship between the coronet and the extensor process of the coffin bone; and where bones are positioned within the hoof capsule to aid in trimming and shoeing decisions.

Reversing Hoof Capsule Rotation and Distal Descent. The mechanics behind successful hoof capsule rotation reversal and distal descent reversal are subtle. Heel height and palmar angle are the most important balancing acts in hoof care and rehabilitation. In this lecture, attendees will learn how “the right” heel height is variable from horse-to-horse, even day-to-day, and how to evaluate and select the best current heel height/palmar angle to support healing.

As always, I look forward to seeing how our hoof researchers and practitioners - Ramey, Poss and Bowker - have come to better the understand the foot, from what we see on the ground or in our hands, to the internal tissues on a cellular level.

When: The weekend of August 13 - 15, 2021.

Where: ECIR Virtual Conference Room at the location of your choice.
