My neighbor has a new Haflinger mare (7yrs). My husband has a new Friesian gelding (coming 6yrs). Both are younger horses, not overweight and healthy at this time in their lives. We were discussing these breeds as "easy keepers" and I brought up the potential of EMS/IR developing later in their lives. The question came up, is it possible to prevent EMS/IR by feeding the low sugar/low starch hay + a balanced vit/mineral diet throughout their lives?
