Thank you, Colleen. The Purina is 17% combined sugar and starch, TC Senior Gold is 11% NSC (as per the Mad Barn website), and Crypto Aero contains oats, so I'm guessing it is possible that meal could have raised his insulin level, although the amount of feed is quite small. 
Just wanted to confirm that he didn't have any exercise or sedation before the blood test?
