My horse was the same.  Uncontrolled allergies, rashes, hives, etc etc, $$$$ every single summer for vet visits until his PPID was discovered and controlled.  I just told my husband yesterday, Willie has never looked so great in the summer as he does this summer.  His coat is glowing like shiny copper and there is not a single bite, hive, itchy spot, etc on him.  Even his belly is perfect.  Just by 2 cents.  :)
