Basically, biochar is intended as a soil ammendment. 
Activated charcoal has absorption properties- we use it frequently in human medicine to absorb ingested toxins. 
Charcoal for the grill is made in a different way, with petroleum added. 
All three are made with various degrees of oxygen added to the pyrolysis processing and the biomass used is a different substance. 
The only one I have ever used in humans or animals is the activated charcoal. It has the ability to attract and trap molecules on its surface area...thus reducing the amount of poison that is able to bind to the cells and be absorbed and reducing the illness the poison may cause.
