I'm not sure what to do about this. I cut and pasted exactly what I was sent and made it into an automatic signature file as instructed.

Re: Hay question
Gail, I bought the Susanville orchard grass from Larsen’s. I’m happy to share the final 603 analysis with you. I should have it soon. PM me if I don’t post the updated analysis within the week. I ordered Se analysis, which takes a long time.
Larsens told me they had plenty of hay from the same load. My hay had blue and yellow string. -- Cass for Cayuse Sonoma County, Calif. Oct. '12 Cayuse Photo Album Cayuse Case History

Re: Pergolite
Hi Beverly,
Check out the links in the pergolide 101 file for the ECIR list: https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/3%20Cushings%20Disease%20-%20PPID/Cushings%20Disease%20Treatments/Pergolide/Pergolide%20101.pdf There is a lot of great information in that whole document. Just a caution that the current best practice for monitoring insulin status is to use the glucose/insulin ratio. The lab normals tend to be misleading for insulin and Junior's insulin may in fact not be controlled. Please check his status by using the IR calculator: https://www.ecirhorse.com/ir-calculator-leptin.php If you need information to help update your files, please take a look at: https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/wiki/home#Case-History-Help Let us know if you get stuck. -- Paula with Cory (IR & PPID?) and Onyx (IR/PPID)

Re: Hay question
Cass, I am about to buy somewhere between 60 and 85 bales of hay. I was considering buying 3rd cut orchard grass from Susanville from Larsens if they have it. Are you buying direct from the farmers? Should we try to purchase some of the hay you bought in one large "buy (I feel like I am arranging a big drug buy😊)? I would be willing to pay toward your costs for hay analysis and even for any mineral balancing you have paid for if that would work for my horses. Dewormers
Carol Jacoby <cjjacoby@...>
Are there any dewormers, herbal or otherwise, that are safe for an IR horse?

Re: Cabergoline - was switching from Prascend to compounded pergolide
How can I learn what’s involved with switching from pergolide to cabergoline, Dr. Kellon? My horse, Logo, seemed controlled (symptomatically) at the end of September with 3mg Prascend and 20 compounded pergolide (ACTH 20, which I knew was not low enough so I immediately increased the pergolide to 21) but now he is having issues and his ACTH is 54.5. This is panic inducing. I certainly wouldn’t want to take him off pergolide for any length of time. I am rapidly (but gradually) increasing his pergolide. He is not prone to laminitis but instead weight loss and infections.

Many Barns including where I board my horse, have switch from Timothy to teff hay. You can see some analyses of teff. It is often acceptable just sometimes hi in iron

Re: Unsweetened Applesauce as Flavoring for Supps
Hi, Suzanne - My gut feeling is that 1 tsp = 5 cc of applesauce *should* be okay, mixed in with the soy hull pellets; and double that will likely also be okay. Keep trying, and monitor his feet, crest etc; the blood draw will give you even more information.

Re: Trim evaluation request; and Dr. Kellon, please check for questions on ovarian abnormalities
Hi, Daniela - If this were me, I would increase by 0.5 mg for 4 days,(so she is on 1.5 mg), then go to 2 mg. Did she get lethargic or lose her appetite when she first started the Prascend? If so, then make a slower increase: go to 1.25 mg for 4 days, then 1.5 mg for 4 days, then 1.75 mg for 4 days, then the full 2 mg. The 2 mg might or might not be enough; I realize in Europe it is very expensive to use higher doses of pergolide, because you don't have access to compounded pergolide and so have to use Prascend.

Re: Triple Crown being bought by Purina
AAFCO has no regulatory authority. That is the jurisdiction of the FDA. Feeds are basically regulated at the state level though. Spot samples are taken and analyzed to make sure they match up to their guaranteed analysis information. There are also labeling requirements set by the individual states. Some follow AAFCO suggestions, others do not.

Doesn't AAFCO require the manufacturer to meet their label specifications? I think they do. Maybe Dr. Kellon knows for sure.

Re: Hay question
Beth, does your barn have access to Susanville hay? I bought decent third cut orchard grass from Susanville. It has nice levels of major minerals and less than 4% ESC. I uploaded a 603 analysis of a small sample to Cayuse's Case History folder under Hay Analysis. I'm awaiting a resample of the entire 40 bales and will update this thread if I find anything significantly different. My mare likes it.

Re: Help with my mare!
Hi Jessica,
An Archive search will turn up a lot of discussion about flax. But here is what Dr. Kellon has said in the past: "If you sprinkle the flax on top after soaking it will be eaten more quickly than if you mix it through. That said, precautions with flax are out of an abundance of caution. The reality is that there are no reported cases of cyanide poisoning from flax in any species. A 2 oz serving for your pony is safe." Eleanor in PA -- Lorna in Eastern Ontario, Canada

I read everywhere that linseed mixed with water could enable the toxic compound of the linseed to get out of the grain and be dangerous for the horse. -- Jessica Skene - Abitibi, Québec, Canada Sonara => Canadian X QH mare , 11 years old, historic of founder and suspicion of IR october 2017 Link to case history: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Jessica%20Skene%20and%20Sonara/SonaraCaseHistory2017.pdf Link to album: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=10295&p=Name,,,20,1,0,0
