Re: Prascend versus compounded pergolide
2 bucks is usually the best.. Remember many horses do not do well enough on 1 mg prascend.. and many need higher doses as they age... perhaps cabergoline will be more available as the years go bye..

Re: Compounding pharmacies & titraing up dosage of pergolide
Saucier Kathy
Thank you and yes it makes sense.
I just found the same advice in the archives this evening. There is so much info available to us on this group. Just takes time to find it and I have not had time to be online since all this came in with test results and such. Thank you all for your help. Kathy & Grayson Texas 2005/2018

Prascend versus compounded pergolide
Saucier Kathy
I know this topic has been discussed a lot. Just spent the last couple hours reading files and message archives.
After placing an order for compounded pergolide from Thriving Pets and waiting for the prescription request they sent to the vet to be approved, I got what I expected. The vet says it is illegal for him to write this prescription, that he can only do Prascend. He will match any online pharmacy price though. Also brought up all the regular stuff we hear about efficacy of compounded not being trusted. He shared a link to an article from 2010 by Dr. Nancy Loving comparing compounded pergolide (www.bloodhorse.com article). I know some places are less reliable than others.
I could debate this with him but I'm feeling like spending more money is worth not going through the hassle and possibly turning my vet away from wanting to treat my horse if I'm too difficult a customer.
I've been comparing prices online to use for him to match or give me a prescription from and here is what I have found. I would like to know if anyone else has found a better price. Hope this is ok to ask.
Valley Vet will do 60 tablets for $132.95. That comes out just over $2 per day, with free shipping.
Next best I have found is $3/day.
Of course the pergolide would have been under $1 day.
So is $2 a day the best we can find for Prascend?

I promise to get a case history up after this weekend when I'm back on my home computer with all the tests and notes.

It is important to keep your database information up to date. The database has already helped improve the quality of life for many PPID horses but with our member base, we can have a very effective tool for study to influence current thinking about pergolide dosages and PPID control. Is it ok to share?
Is it ok to share things like the Ontario Dehy pdf file with people not in this group? I certainly don't want to violate any rules...but there is so much great stuff here I get excited! :)

Hi Bonnie, I was answering Heidi's question about adding Stabul 1 to her boy's beet pulp. Heidi is in driving distance of Randy's feed store, (as am I, and I love talking to Randy).
Heidi could use just the Stabul 1 and skip the r/s/r beet pulp routine.

Trouble searching for source of "Source"
Bonnie
I just can't find it using the search function as it keeps giving me messages about source of pain, source of iron, but it does not seem to recognize -"Source"- as a proper name. And my memory cannot drag up the company I bought some from in the past. Help!

Re: New ( 2018-05-30) Xrays uploaded
Dr. Kellon,
Thank you so very much for the quick review and words of treatment. Yes will continue the casting as you stated. I have recently worked with Nicole Sicely on nutrition and an average of hay analysis, since I have no room to store hay I have to buy in a few square bales at a time. I am continuing to soak his hay and keeping his diet tight per your recommended articles and Nicole's- which is similar in every way. I do use the horse hydrator filter as well. I am awaiting to hear back from the county on regards to water tests, but I also have an filter on my well, but need test analysis done regardless. Again thank you so very much. -- Candice Piraino September 2018, Summerfield, FL Case History: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Candice%20and%20Shark Shark's Photo Album: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=71507 .

Hi,
Do you want vaccinations identified on the case history forms? How do you want the case history to show short term actions. For example, my horse is on antibiotics for a month. It's on my case history, but what to I do to update the history when he stops taking it so it will be clear it was a 1-month prescription? Thanks

Re: Nutritional advice to feed the foot, higher calorie needs
Thanks. I’ll add methionine. She’s been on Jherb since last December but I realize I should double check I’m still dosing to effect with added weight.
I’m going to have to think about soaking to reduce nitrates. I thought these hays were safe at these levels, 122ppm and 363 ppm. Sorry, I see my link to one of the hays is broken in the CH. Our local hay sources are all irrigated, so nitrates are something to be managed but not eliminated. -- Cass for Cayuse (PPID/IR) and Diamond (IR) Sonoma County, Calif. Oct.
