Tanna,

Prascend can't have a longer effect on ACTH than Prolactin because effects on both are by the same mechanism, mimicing dopamine.

No, I don't have a picture but it wouldn't only be under the saddle. That is salt/sweat damage.

I don't think it will be an issue, and J also is antiinflammatory.

One dentistry issue I neglected to mention in addition to aggressive corrections is the use of a speculum. TMJ pain from speculum use can last weeks to months.

Hello,
I am going to attempt to provide answers to your questions, on one response, and thank you! ☺️
This vet does minimal dental correction, only adjusts the bite and/or sharp edges...I must admit that I am a novice in the dentistry area.
Gunnar doesn’t quid, but he is a big time “dropsy”, as he takes a bite and chews and looks around. He also scoots his grain out. Any suggestions there would be great!
Lavinia, he had domosedan (sp)? I can check the amount and what else, if any.
Dr. Kellon, your are right regarding his breed...he has always been challenging to keep weight on. I will start increasing his TC senior and wetting it.
Gunnar gets free choice hay daily...as much as he will eat.
I will titrate his dose back up to 5.
I can check on the ACTH testing when he was on 4mg. ☺️
Thank you for all of your help and suggestions!
Carla

Hi Daisy, I can't speak to the ppid or IR with rusty hair, but I do know that getting enough  zinc and copper play a big part in coat color and that sweat that isn't rinsed or sponged off, like under the saddle, can be a factor in the rust color there.  I've had two different black horses and their coats stayed black once I fed enough zinc and copper.  It helps to reduce iron in the diet and have a balance between iron/copper/zinc.

Thank you for the response Dr. Kellon, I dont think I was clear. I was concerned the additional circulation may cause pain in his mouth due to the EORTH. I just didnt want surging pain in his mouth.

Thank you

Updated pics post-trim (Soozee's Case History - Thunder's Case History - Updated with X-rays - Frodo's Case History)

rebecca.ann.crowe@...

Hi,

For anyone who'd like to see an update, I've uploaded pictures of Sooz and Frodo after their trims today - links below.

Thunder was unable to be fully trimmed because he is working on an abscess and not bearing weight.  I will update those as soon as he's able to stand for a trim. His pain level seems more manageable, though, and he's no longer sweating.

Leslie,

I'm seeing that Pacific Hoof Care is now Progressive Hoof Care Practitioners ...but I don't see anything on the website that explains the name change? What am I missing - they are one and the same yes?

Dosage may be a question you might want to discuss with your vet perhaps but I just wanted to echo Nancy's response and say that I definitely saw positive changes within a week of starting Prascend. I saw even more changes with an increase to 0.75.

I came into the process in a bit of disbelief and I feel that because the progression into PPID is so gradual there were several subtle things, that had become the "norm", that were changing for the even better.

1/4s are just inconvenient, in general, I wish prascend could be purchased in various sizes!

Hi Lavinia,
I'm so glad i scheduled this consult with you. We definitely got off track here. When i look at the LH sole shot i took right his trim on 7/8 my farrier is trying to trim right up to the white line. To your eye is that what we're doing or do we need to go closer? Regarding the flares..I'm going to take photos after he works on a foot so that we can truly see how much more needs to come in and where. Even though i'm getting down on the ground to look/check...my eye obviously isn't seeing what the camera eye does.

I'm wondering - if he's responding this quickly to 1/2 mg... should I just leave him there, rather than titrating up to 1mg? Under what circumstances would I lower to 1/4, if he's responding so quickly to 1/2?

Re: Prolactin ... WAS Re: Winter coat retention

Tanna

Thank you Martha,

I was reading threads at 3 am or so, searching topics unrelated to Cabergoline, and there was a reference made to a document or folder containing information about Cabergoline and it's effect on Prolactin. It might have have been a dead yahoo link but my next best guess for its revised location was this folder:

https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/3%20Cushings%20Disease%20-%20PPID/Cushings%20Disease%20Treatments/Cabergoline

Which, unless I'm going crazy, and that may very well be the case, there is nothing there.

Re: Prolactin ... WAS Re: Winter coat retention

Tanna, I had been researching cabergoine here not too long ago and there was more there than I wanted to read, much on prolactin.  As I had also come up with an empty search initially, I thought I should check it out.  In fact there are many messages there.  Here’s the link. https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/search?q=Cabergoline

Or maybe it was something else you were looking for?
