Can I put the Prascend Pill in ONE Blueberry?

Julie Thomas

This seems like far too simple a solution, so I suspect it can't be done (too much sugar?), but would it be ok to put the Prascend Pill (1/4 pill for my mini Sparky; 1/2 pill for my QH Ike) in ONE blueberry each & give that to them with a couple of the Timothy cubes?

Reports vary on this but it's looking like higher results at least August through January. How many of them may actually be early PPID horses is unclear.

Hi Jessica,

You said, sorry for all the questions it’s my first winter in preventing mode instead of curring mode.

You and Sonara have come a long way. Good on you for being in prevention mode !

One question often leads to another, and I don't think any of us will stop having them, so you aren't allowed to apologize.
:-)

Socks go in the boots.
Yes,boots need to be closed,to keep out cold and snow.
I used to boot according to temperature.

Others will have more answers for you.

Re: Pentoxifylline and J herb

Eleanor Kellon, VMD

This isn't in-horse information but there is the potential for CBD to either interfere with or increase the J effects on nitric oxide.  I would start with half the usual starting dose and watch gum/tongue color closely. Let us know how it turns out.

I was wondering the same michel, but to this date, i did not booted her hind (but I did put bandage on tho) and she was fine

dr kellon it is more the humidity that the horse release into the bag like normal humidity released by the body 🤔

I've got EasyBoot Clouds (they've got thick pads) and shipping boots for his front feet.
Do I need to boot the hind feet as well?

Immune Plus suggested by vet

vicky monen

Hi there,
Unfortunately Samson is going into another round of treatment this year for EPM. He is Cushings/IR as well.

The vet is suggesting to use Immune Plus by Omega Alpha to help with his immune system during treatment.
Ingredients:
Astragalus, Echinacea angustifolia / E. purpurea, Ashwagandha, Eleutherococcus senticosus, Cat’s claw, Reishi mushroom

Is this product safe to use on IR/Cushings horses.

Thanks,
Vicky Monen and Samson

Question for Dr. Kellon,

Is J herb safe to administer if my gelding is on daily CBD pellets for arthritis pain?  It may be unknown.  Thank you in advance.

Yes, you can take them off when it's dry but with the low humidity and cold in winter it's not much of an issue. If they are left on they have to be checked at least once a day for slippage.

Re: Case history missing

Hi, Patricia. Dancer's CH dated 10/23/2019 is in the folder linked in your signature! Good job.

If you take the extra step of uploading your CH in pdf format, it will open in a browser window instead of downloading. Detailed instructions on making a pdf are in the Wiki, here:
 https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/wiki/How-to-Save-Your-Case-History-as-a-PDF

As it turns out, uploading your CH as a document (.doc) saved you a lot of time because it saved your original from lightening!

Thank you so much for all your help!

plastic bag will retain humidity tho? Need some time off boot when inside so the skin can breath?

Re: winter booting

Put the sock over the hoof and pastern, with a plastic bag over that if there is snow. Use a bag that comes up high enough that the top of it will be covered by the shipping boots.  Yes, closed boots would be better.  When to do it depends on the individual horse's tolerance. If you're not sure, start at 40F/4.4C.

Re: Defending against cold weather laminitis/hoof sensitivity in PPID and/or IR horses

jen@...

When you refer to boots, do you mean they cover the whole hoof including the bottom?  Or do you mean they cover the coronary band?  The ones I bought last year are:  https://justforponies.com/cordura-fleece-lined-shipping-boots-8-10-12-and-14/

Their description say:  The Cordura Fleece Lined Pony Shipping Boots are designed to protect the legs while traveling, including the sensitive coronary band.

The tube-shaped boots are made with a tough, Cordura outer shell that's color and fade resistant. The thick, soft fleece lining is a Sherpa material that resists picking up shavings or straw. The boots are fastened with wide Velcro straps that hold the boots securely in place.

Boots can be used for front and hind legs. It's best to use rear boots that are 2 inches taller than front boots. For example, use a 10 Inch pair in front and a 12 Inch pair behind.

We have used these boots for years on our ponies and love them - they're easy to take on and off and hold up well to repeated use and washings.

Colors: Purple, Royal Blue, Hunter Green, Navy & Red

Sizes: 8 Inch, 10 Inch, 12 Inch, 14 Inch

Sold in Pairs
--------------------------------------------
I have no issue purchasing another type, but I do have difficulty finding items to fit Cowboy.  For example, his stature is such that at 12.1h he is smaller than a cob and sometimes requires yearling or small pony sizes.  It is never a guarantee.  Most "pony" sized items do not fit.  Uhg.  I saw mention of the Woof Wear Boots above.  I found these and can order them, but will they be much different than what I already have?
