Re: Uckele product return issues

'Scuse, Dawn, my reply was to the comment from another member, following your post.

"Lorna, the fact that Uckele is a benefactor should have zero bearing on whether members can post about issues they are having with either product or service from them. "
I totally agree with this. It was not your post which I was addressing.

If you haven't done, it might be an idea to bring this up with the owner. I can't believe, from what I know of him , that he would be at all pleased with your (and probably not yours alone) experience.

Lorna, the fact that Uckele is a benefactor should have zero bearing on whether members can post about issues they are having with either product or service from them.  I was physically present at Uckele yesterday for the second time to inquire as to my refund. I spoke directly with three different service reps, who spoke with the accounting department. I was told that I was being moved to the top of the refund list and it would still take five business days to have a credit issued to my credit card. That means that even with my own followup,  and being moved up, it was taking three weeks to be issued a cc refund. Members should be aware of this issue since ECIR recommends Uckele daily to someone for some product and have the ECIR program in place for discounts because it sounds from what I was told that this is how refunds will be processed going forward.

If I find out from Uckele this was simply an aberration, then I will let everyone know. That was not the impression I got yesterday.

Re: water filter to take out iron

A while back I extensive research on water iron, and unless it's actually in chunks that the filter can remove, filters (other than an RO filter) do nothing to remove the free iron. Please let me know if this has changed.

Re: Uckele product return issues

I  do not believe that employees are scamming , etc.  What I do believe has happened from what I was told directly by customer service reps yesterday is that Uckele had changed how it enters inventory back into it's stock, and since they do not use a point of service credit card debit machine, rather they have your CC on file, they have created six or seven layers of sign off before refunds can be issued. They wouldn't be the first company who changes how they manage their supply chain requisitions, how they inventory or record keep inventory, etc.  That comes with growth, and unfortunately , it usually has a lot of growing pains. It also often comes with a process that is locked in and can't be changed without changing the entire process of the manufacturing and delivery chain. Once companies get large enough, they find consultants and IT manufacturing programs that promise to make them efficient and cost effective, but they can also lose that bridge to their customers as their processes favor the company instead of the customer.

I have personal  work experience with this exact problem, which is why I am alarmed.

Another example is walking into the retail store and they have zero 1 gallon jugs of Cocosoya, or they have 20lb bags of Absorb All.  Staff tells me to either wait a week when they are scheduled to bottle 1 gal jugs of Cocosoya, or I could drive to a TSC and buy it from them. Absorb All is not scheduled to be produced in small buckets for two weeks. They can repackage a 20lb bag, but it will cost me a repackage fee and take three to five days. I don't know for certain, but I am willing to bet that the majority of Uckele's equine customers are individual horse owners, or retail stores who are ordering a dozen of products at a time.

I wanted to rant a bit, because I am distressed that Uckele is having these issues, and I also wanted to alert the group that returns and credits are not being addressed quickly as they were in the past, which I use to encourage members to consider when buying something from Uckele they aren't familiar with.

Uckele is one of our benefactors.
I'm sad to see this comment presented here, instead of the proper place, which would be with Uckele.

There's a premature and unwarranted rush to judgement going on here.  Dawn was understandably displeased with how a transaction was handled but the "why" is unknown. Hopefully she will post again when it gets straightened out.

Re: Update on Storm

Hi Heather,
You mention testing ACTH this spring but I don’t see those results in your case history.  They are in your post but those results sometimes get ‘lost’.

I have at least one pony whose ACTH has always been normal.  He was aged when I got him (and still is, for sure) so we began giving him pergolide, upon the advice of our vet, to help with his non shedding issues.  I’ve tested him since then and the ACTH hasn’t budged but we monitor his symptoms and dose him accordingly.  He’s got to be pushing 40 now and doing quite well.

Re: Latest ACTH/Insulin test results, seeking advice on next steps

Ann, I switched from pergolide to cabergoline when it became very apparent that additional pergolide was not having the desired effect.  This was at a very high pergolide dose so I suspect resistance to pergolide began to develop much earlier, especially as switching from pergolide to cabergoline resulted in an incredible veil, something I had not expected.  As cabergoline is administered by injection in some sort of proprietary sustained release formulation, once it’s in the system, it’s there for a week or two.  I did not pretreat with APF, not expecting any issues, but I gave APF once I realized this was not going to be an ‘average’ veil.  Logo’s veil went away but I have no idea if that was due to time or APF.  I would recommend using it if you switch.

it is much more expensive than pergolide, most likely due to the sustained release formulation, so that needs to be a consideration.  I’ve seen where some have used it for boarded horses to avoid the issues of barn staff administering drugs.

Heather
I know most horses here aren’t controlled on such a small dose but our little mare was exhibiting the same symptoms as you mentioned, we also maintain her on half a pill. She’s done really well (thank goodness) . I’m going to have her retested soon but she got lame clear back in July and has been on that dose since.
Hope you will have the same luck, and now that we’re getting really cold I hope we can continue her soundness. Everyday she is pain free is a blessing.
Good luck

I’m so sorry for your loss, Polly.  Rest assured that you made the right decisions, all in a timely fashion, to diminish her pain.  So much can change over the course of a day and many of those things are far beyond our control.  Please give yourself a big hug from all of us who care.

Re: Update on Storm

Eleanor Kellon, VMD

These cases are rarely cut and dried. Her blood work from Spring can bear little resemblance to what is going on during the seasonal rise. It looks like she is at the stage where she has exaggerated seasonal rises which push her insulin into high levels - and the cold probably is also a factor. Good example of how smoldering EMS is still doing damage to the laminae. It's very difficult to answer your question about dosage without blood work but yes, you can see positive results that quickly. Since we are out of, or almost out of, the rise period and she's doing well, if your vet agrees you could stay at this dose. I would probably keep her on at least for as long as her seasonal pain has lasted before, and add Jiaogulan; consider taking her off when she's past the danger time for her and retest to see if she needs it all year. She'll definitely need it next fall.

I'm very sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful animal, and I'm sure a dear friend. Hopefully the pathology results will give you some answers. If she had a functioning adrenal tumor it may have contributed to the sweating.

Oh Polly, I’m so sorry to hear that Ana’s gone. Such a shock for it to have happened so quickly. Ana was extremely lucky to have you as her person for all these years, and to act fast and get her the best help when she was in crisis - you spared her a lot of suffering. So sad that the outcome was such a tragic one for you.

Best wishes
