Maria, I know it's been said before, but I'll say it again.  The horses in your care are very fortunate to have you as their caretaker.   You are such a wonderful horsewoman and are doing everything in your power to help them, under some difficult conditions.  I know I would feel very lucky indeed if I had you caring for Chappie.  I have always had my horses at home, but if I ever did have to board them I would feel very relieved to have someone like you caring for them.

Thank you for the clarification all. My apologies.

It's been too long since I signed up and refreshed myself on the rules.

Thanks Nancy
I was a member of Pete’s page and follow the new one but I don’t want too many opinions, I’d rather get them here where her history is known. I did in the beginning literally BEG for a trimmer to help us but anyone that was remotely close didn’t want to take us on, although I received a lot of support I struck out finding someone. We’re several hours away from anyone with the knowledge we need.
Thank you though

Yes thank you, I don´t believe there is a problem asking for help and giving some details in order to be helped, but will not extend too much on why there are several limitations as I don´t believe is of help for anyone.

Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the reminder Cindy.

His CG depth on both fronts is 15mm at mid-bar.  There is no ‘depth’ at POF, rather the frog is raised and there is no groove to speak of at that point.

I have been starting to clear the back of the CGs away from the heel area to open it in order to see true heel height.  Let me know if u need further info.

Just to add a little bit here, when you post ECIR assumes you have permission. If you don't, not using the horse's or owner's name might not be enough to hide the identity. If you post enough details it could be easy for someone who knows you and the animals you work with it to figure out.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the structure of the organization arises from the wish and requirements to protect privacy while giving the best possible recommendations in a public forum.

Bottom line is, if you are going to share details about a horse you do not own, even if you are a caregiver, you need to have permission.

Thanks very much to all of you for your help in this regard.

Hi Bobbie,

Definitely, it's the RF that needs to have the heel lowered somewhat. DO NOT lower the LF, it is already much too low, although it is also quite underrun.

I believe I wouldn´t be comfortable doing so because I feel I break his owner´s trust and I have conquered a lot with him so I don´t want to put him at risk.
Good instincts Maria.

Just a reminder to all, as stated in the ECIR Group Terms of Use, you need to be the owner or have permission to post anything about a horse.

As it states on our ECIR Group home page:

PLEASE READ THE ECIR GROUP TERMS OF USE and PRIVACY POLICIES.  By joining this group, using ecirhorse.org or other ECIR Groups products, you agree to the terms and conditions of these policies.

Everyone's heart is in the right place, wanting to help horses. Just need permission to do so, if you are not the owner.

Thank you, Nancy. I need to mention that ECIR does not officially endorse dietary, treatment or trimming advice on outside sites, especially private sites where content is hidden. We also do not recommend the use of spread sheets for diet balancing.

Re barefoot trimmers
Facebook has a hoof rehab page that follows Dr K's and Pete Ramey recommendations.  They have a spread sheet on feed and are putting together a list of barefoot trimmers across the US (and maybe Canada?). Here is the link:
Hope this helps!

Hi Glenys

Great that little Louis is feeling better. Do you have collateral groove depths to share? (haha I know you do but maybe forgot to mention)

Hi Tanna,

Thank you for your concern, it is very much appreciated. I believe I wouldn´t be comfortable doing so because I feel I break his owner´s trust and I have conquered a lot with him so I don´t want to put him at risk.

He is still sore but slowly getting better. I performed a bloodwork for him on tuesday, this is 3 days after the trim while he was sore and his ACTH shows he was in pain. In january 18th his ACTH was 31 pg/ml and now in february 11th his ACTH is 56.8 pg/ml, glucose 98 mg /100ml and insulin 19.80 uIU/ml.

The good news is that his is finally almost at 5 BSC what he has never been on, his topline and rump are much much much better!

I am already looking for a different trimmer and will talk again with his former one. I he doesn´t follow my guidance (right or wrong), I will change trimmer. I pay, I chose.

Thanks a lot Tanna!

Hi Lavinia and others

I have now posted the latest x-rays taken yesterday.  They are here https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=239216-

The trimmer is still coming tomorrow otherwise i can't get her before I go away for a few days late next week.  I know she will definitely take the toe back with the nippers (which I am unable to use at this stage).  So I'd be so grateful if you could mark up the rads when you are able to and I'll show her.  I'm thinking that even if she doesn't want to do what you suggest, I can still monitor and then post photos of the trim afterwards.  I'm capable of tidying the trim as long as it doesn't need nippers.

I look forward to your advice from here.

On a positive note, I think the pergolide, diet and the Eva pads are making a difference finally, as he is much more comfortable, despite his rotation.  He's back to his cheeky self and moving much more freely, albeit still restricted in his space.  We are on day 7 of the pergolide and seemed to have by-passed the 'veil' period safely.  So now to get the trim sorted.

I open to any feedback / suggestions.
