Re: Use of Palmitoylethanolamide(PEA) for pain management

Cassie

I am not sure where I saw that PEA and CBD were complimentary.  Perhaps I dreamt it.... At any rate, I will try them separately and see if there is a difference.

I did find that using the two together might only decrease inflammation, but the extra neuro protective benefits of either alone are lost (Interaction-Between-The-Protective-Effects-Of-Cannabidiol-And-Palmitoylethanolamide-In-Experimental-Model-Of-Multiple-Sclerosis-In-C57bl6-Mice.pdf.pdf (anandaenterprises.com.au))

Re: Updating CH

Maxine McArthur

Hi Marsha
The idea is that you 1. Download the case history form to your device. 2. Fill inn the relevant details. 3. Save that filed-in form on your device somewhere you can find it. I’m not sure about a tablet, but on my computer I create a folder on the desktop for easy access. 4. Go to case history sub-group, create your folder and upload the case history on your device (instructions in Wiki etc). 5. To update the case history, fill in the new details in the form on your device. I usually save the form with the new details under a new name, usually the date.

So it sounds like you are up to here, yes?

To put the new case history that you’ve just filled out on your device into your folder in the case history subgroup, you’ll need to do the following:
6. Go to your folder (easiest way is to click on the link in your signature). 7. Delete the old case history. 8. Upload the updated case history form on your device the same way you uploaded the first one.

That should do it!

Let us know how you go.

Re: Vitamin E and oil

Kirsten Rasmussen

Kandace, I bought the one with just vitE.  It's like a granular powder.  I priced it out and it is the same as ordering powdered E from My Best Horse in the US, once the exchange rate and shipping is accounted for.  I have found human capsules to be a lot more expensive than powdered E so I only use them for pre-mixing supplement baggies for when I am away (although I don't live near Costco where I understand you can get a good deal on capsules...plus my horse would sometimes spit them out and they'd be wasted).

A full size EMS horse should get 1600-2000IU/day, in general.  Some people feed more but that's already double the requirement of a non-EMS horse.

Anne,

I want to reiterate everything you have been told so far. We need a history, lab details, photos and radiographs to help you.

In the meantime, start the emergency diet and order Phyto-Quench so you can get him off the phenylbutazone https://uckele.com/phyto-quench-pellet.html . Photos ASAP, especially the LF.

Kirsten Rasmussen

Cocomega is safe for ECIR horses.  Just keep to the lower recommended dose, as you are, since EMS horses do not need excess fat in their diet.

It gets easier,Linda . Promise.

Kirsten's idea of posting current information as soon as you can, and working on previous details as time allows, was a good one.
That way the volunteers can at least get an idea of what is going on now, and help you make some choices for improvement.

Keep breathing.Don't forget to exhale.

Nancy, did you have a chance to reread this summary on Jiaogulan? It's a thorough review of the details when you're aiming to mobilize an abscess. https://ecir.groups.io/g/main/files/Pain%20Medication%20and%20Alternatives/Jiaogulan,%20Nitric%20Oxide%20Support,%20AAKG%20and%20Supps/Jiaogulan%20Doses%20and%20Precautions.pdf

Are you still seeing the "pinking" effect of Jherb on Vinnie's tongue and gums within 1 ½ - 2 hours after feeding it? We believe Jherb is most effective when consumed 20 minutes before feed and not when NSAIDS are being used.  Your supplements supply a total of 4 grams of Jherb 2X/day. Are they both still fed in a bucket feed?

Horses can vary a lot in the amount of Jherb it takes to see an effect. Cayuse needs 5 grams of Jherb 2X/day 20 minutes before feed  for me to see pink in her grayish gums. Diamond shows an effect on 3/4 that amount of Jherb even tho she's 150 lb heavier.

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for adding some photos.

Toes are still too far forward at ground level. It appears as if most of the work is being done on the laminar wedge along the dorsal wall rather than actually bringing the toe back a ground level. The other issue is that although the heels need to come back more, there is less-than-zero vertical height available to do so at the moment. I think you will find that the HPA remains broken back when you do the new rads. Need to leave the heel height alone while floating the heels to allow them to drop down and gain some vertical height.

RF still has a fair amount of wall flare that needs to be addressed while the LF is looking pretty good now - a huge improvement there.

When you have the rads done, it would be very helpful if you would mark the tip of the frog as a reference point.

If the E is in a stablized form, usually an acetate, that should be OK.

Camelina has too high an omega-6:omega-3 ratio. The other oils you mentioned are OK but MUCH more expensive than flax and no better

What is it about Camelina oil that makes it not appropriate as an omega 3 source for horses? How about perilla oil? sachi inchi oil? and ahiflower oil?

Re: Jiaogulan Dose (was Acute laminitis - unable to control pain)

Shera Felde

Thanks, Sherry. Probably a month, increasing little by little but also losing some with the syringing. There is also some in her glycocemic eq. Do you know about the ginseng conflict?  I am still waiting for the ginseng and devil's claw to come. Just ordered the PEA and CBD after reading it's helping others. Story still doesn't want to walk with me. She seems to be in a holding pattern of pain even though she has had days of looking her old self. It is so hard to gauge what is preventing steady progress.
