Re: Probiotic Digestive Supplement Question
Hi Jennifer,
Try searching the messages for ‘probiotic’ to see what comes up. I just did that and the list is long. The topic is discussed frequently because it’s frustrating on a number of levels. I have been lucky with my horses as it has always been caused by a change in forage and would clear up on its own. -- Martha in Vermont

Re: New Pics and Case History uploaded
#photo-notice
Sounds like Montana is doing well and feeling good! I'm glad the new diet suits her.
That said, her ACTH on July 6 was a bit higher than we'd like it to be at that time of year. Generally, we aim to keep ACTH in the teens to low 20's year-round once PPID has been diagnosed. You might want to consider increasing the Prascend through the seasonal rise, or having her ACTH checked on the current dose in late Sep/early Oct. -- Kirsten and Shaku (IR + PPID) - 2019 Kitimat, BC, Canada ECIR Group Moderator Shaku's Photo Album

Probiotic Digestive Supplement Question
Fergus is almost through his first container of Uckele Absorb-All. Generally, he still has loose poop. In the past we’ve also tried GUT and SmartDigest and he continued to have loose poop with those also. Even the diet change hasn’t seemed to have any effect on his GI issues. Before I reorder the Absorb-All, I wasn’t sure if there was a different digestive support supplement that I should try.

You can definitely post what you have for now, and continue to make updates to the file on your computer then replace the uploaded file with the most up to date file when it's ready.

Re: Laminitis
Hi Yvette,
A combined ESC and starch of 3.9% is unusually low. Not impossible, but last year someone in this forum also reported such a low number (it was by NIR analysis) they had it retested and the new results by both wet chemistry and NIR analysis showed it was actually much higher. If you think starting the new hay may have had a role in a laminitis episode, I would consider asking the lab to rerun the test to be sure and ask them to be sure to do it by wet chemistry. -- Kirsten and Shaku (IR + PPID) - 2019 Kitimat, BC, Canada ECIR Group Moderator Shaku's Photo Album

Re: New xrays
He has some lamellar thickening and sinking but no bony rotation. All he needs for trim is to have to toes backed up. I'd go ahead and do it.

Don't bother with blood work after hauling. You may be able to find a vet tech that will come and draw the blood then you can take it to your vet's office.

Re: Magni - Cloud boots and hoof alignment
Deb Walker
Kathy - I typically do not have this problem with the Clouds using either their insert or a Soft Ride insert. The Soft Ride boots however did twist continually, surface on one side) and cut it into halves. Wedge the sponge, soft side on the hoof, in either the sides of the boot, or at the toe if they are a bit too long. I placed the sponges where I wanted them before putting the boot on, but you can also try just pulling down the front of the boot and wedging it in to any space you see. The sponge wears down quickly, but it did help, and it was an inexpensive alternative.
Also, Soft Rides carry an insert that comes in narrow sizes, that feature an extra piece of material on each side, which also work best for Scotty. -- Deb and Scotty I/R, PPID Pecatonica Illinois, May 13, 2019 Case History: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/files/Deb%20and%20Scotty Photos: https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/album?id=90619

Re: Seasonal Rise and allergies
Yes, I always use APF when titrating him up. It doesnt make any significant difference, but I still use it every time! He is super sensitive.

New xrays
nikkibob1994@...
Hey all, Darby is struggling, not sure why we are dealing with another bout of laminitis, he's been really good for a couple years now. Just started on Metformin as per Dr. Kellon, but would like someone to take a peek at his xrays in his file and compare them to June's. Yes he needs a trim, but I don't want to do that until he is more comfortable..or is that wrong thinking? Thanks!

Re: Seasonal Rise and allergies
Yes, I was switching him from splitting the dose of 1mg am and 1mg pm to one dose of 2 mg per day. I got him up to 1.5 dose per day and he stopped eating and was refusing meds. He gets the veil with any changes at all with the prascend. I was afraid to just give him the 2 pills all at one time in a single dose as I knew it would have a harsh veil with it. So, I got him to the 1.5 pills and am working him up to the 2 full pills in one dose at this time. I know its not perfect since the seasonal rise and I should have already gotten him taking the 2 pills at one time by now.
