I think the most important thing to remember is to add very little of everything and work up from that. So I would start out with the little amount she tolerates, and probably mask that already with

Oh - the ridges! No, I don't know of any reason to necessarily rasp them off. Farriers tend to remove them more as a cosmetic thing I think. Jana's farrier probably removed them in the process of
