Thanks so much - I think I will steer clear of the Oats then and if I have a problem, will come back and ask for advise.

Re: Pergolide and insulin
Does this post by Dr. Kellon mean that if I am giving my horse more pergolide than is absolutely necessary to control her ACTH, I could be worsening her glucose tolerance and thus making her more

Hi Lisanne,
I can't answer the insulin question, but any hay change can cause changes in the manure till the digestive system bacteria adapts. I keep Ration Plus on hand for that kind of thing and

Re: Other forms of Zn and Cu [Was: Other forms of magnesium]
Did your horse eat these sulfate forms well? Did you taste them?? It looks like a sensitive gram scale would be necessary to measure correct amounts, since they'd be small.
Thanks,
Lisanne and

HI Sally,
Do you usually give your pergo in the AM? I give mine in the evening and when I get my bloodtests, I try to schedule them late afternoon(or as close to my usual dosing time as I can

And is it possible that some horses insulin levels are more sensitive to starch even than twice the ESC? I tried my mare on some bentgrass hay with 4.2 ESC and 2.0 starch. Her manure got a little

Re: Starch vs ESC: equal effects on insulin?
If it is glucose instead of insulin, does that still mean that I should look for hay with the lowest [ESC + 2x starch] if my mare is extremely insulin-resistant and I'm looking for the least challenge
