No ideas on the diet side of things, but I do know my mini donkey gets bored and she loves the rubber feed tubs, my muck bucket, the apple-picker, anything but horse toys.

My mares ate their bedding too...I switched to rice hulls and at least now
it's pretty empty calories that won't kill them....
