I spoke with someone from HayGain two years ago and was told it does not reduce s/s. I was tired of soaking hay (especially in the winter) and was looking for a better and easier way.

Here's a heads up on a question you didn't ask. Soaked hay can be a major source of iron in the diet if the horse eats a lot of hay.

Somewhere in the files is a "report" I did on steaming vs. soaking, especially how it affected s/s. I think it was Nancy who said there's not much change in major minerals, and that was also true.

steaming hay
I just wanted to double check everything I was reading- steaming hay does not lower the sugar and starch. Correct? Am currently soaking and was looking for a better solution. Thanks!

The hay is grass with 50 percent timothy in it,and less then 10 percent alfalfa in it.
Will have to call hay guy to find out on the testing,so don't want WSC + Starch??

The first thing I would do is make sure it isn't WSC + starch instead of ESC and if it is, get the test repeated. That sounds too high. What type of hay is it?

There is no research linking grass fructan to laminitis. Naturally occurring pasture laminitis has never been connected to high fructan and grass fructan (levan) has never been given to horses and

Tofurky is iron overloaded. Important to keep your trace mineral ratios very tight. Otherwise, the only way to attack it is by blood withdrawal.

I'm not sure what kind of testing you are talking about repeating post doxy but ACTH should probably wait for end July or into August to see how you are doing with the seasonal rise.

In the files is an Excel version. It is older ( a little less up to date) than the on line version for those that need numbers right now but are math challenged. Go here and look for GI Ratio
