Re: Have been advised to put him down today - RATHER URGENT PLEASE
Thanks Lavinia and Jaini,
The whiteness of his coronary band is due to being wet poulticed 24/7. Should I switch to dry?
The rather angry red looking sore on his RF is draining quite freely

Hi Mylissa,
That looks like different lengths of hair in different areas rather than the hair actually growing in different directions.

Re: Got it from files re: Body Condition Score - Re: IR Blood Test Results - Would you help me figure them out
Hi Robyn,
If we have a file that says a BCS of 7 is OK please let me know what it is called because that needs to be changed. A 7 is way too high. Even 6 is not doing an IR horse any good and goal

Re: Now: Case History Review for Becky and April
Hi,
Just an update which makes my concern around the lameness over the last few days make sense. Beautiful smelly abscess has come out of her LF coronary band, at about the quarter mark. Checked out

Got it from files re: Body Condition Score - Re: IR Blood Test Results - Would you help me figure them out
So sorry everyone - I read in the files about BCS. It appears - depending on YOUR horse and his/her work and health of course - a BCS of between 5 and 7 would be appropriate.

Re: IR Blood Test Results - Would you help me figure them out
P.S. I have heard different opinions about "ideal" body condition scores. Is it different for different breeds or is a BCS of 5 or 6 the ideal score for all horses?
Thanks.

Dear Paula and Dr. Kellon,
So sorry for the late reply. Thank you both for advice regarding feeding. It is so frustrating that research has not discovered better ways of managing IR horses and Type 2

Re: Have been advised to put him down today - RATHER URGENT PLEASE
Hi Di,
Great that you have the xrays and blood work set up.
Yes, it's likely the heels are too low, thereby making the coffin bone ground parallel - aka know as having a zero palmer angle. Agree with

Re: Need advice re: Ontario balanced cubes
Thank you, Jaini; i hadn't thought of flavoring because she is totally suspicious of anything different. She sniffs out hand soap, lotion, you name it. But we will keep at it until we find the right

Re: Need advice re: Ontario balanced cubes
Hi, Cass, that is so good to hear. i am going to ask Loomis Basin where the hay is from and hopefully set my mind at ease a bit.
Evacuating Khaiti from her home for the past 20 years was horrific.

Re: What's next?
Oh dear! Ok well maybe you should say I need to increase her hay?
I will weigh her again in the morning to be sure and then re-asses amounts of hay.
Thank you Jaini.
She is not getting ANY

Re: Need advice re: Ontario balanced cubes
Hi, Theresa.
I can't imagine evacuating my 34 year old horse! I'm so glad you found a place for her.
I hope others here in NorCal can pipe up with their results....but the California and Oregon
