Is there an affordable machine to grind hay?
I was wondering if anyone has found a way to grind hay down for older horses with missing teeth. I was thinking that if I could get a load of tested hay and grind it, then add supplements to balance

Re: Trim Evaluation for Luke please
This isn't your fault - you have been working diligently to do what's best for your boy.No wet noodles allowed.
Once the toes get out ahead, they are like a run-away freight train and seem to shoot

Concentration of split Prasend tablets kept outside of foil environment
I talked to a vet today who said that when I splint a Prasend tablet and don't use half for 24 hours, that I am essentially yo-yoing the dose every other day because the pergolide is so unstable

Re: Laminitis Vaccine Offers Horse Owners a Preventive Tool
No, Sandi you are right. This is not going to work because the proposed mechanism is wrong.
Long thread here from the archives. We get testy about it b/c it sends folks out in the wrong

Re: Laminitis Vaccine Offers Horse Owners a Preventive Tool
Hmm, but my understanding of metabolic type laminitis (that most of us are dealing with) is that it's from a hormonal cause, not being the same as laminitis from rich grasses, etc.? Maybe I'm

Re: Vit E in AZ Copper Complete
Yes, you have to supplement separately. I just recently heard of another horse with very low E despite getting E in a Horse Tech supplement.

Vit E in AZ Copper Complete
Is it necessary to supplement with the Vit E gel caps if feeding AZ Copper Complete? It has 4,000 iu, but I've always heard that the Vit E in powdered supplements isn't really viable.
Does anybody

Re: sweet question
Grass seed matures quickly (3 to 10 days) and is dropped so just seeing the heads doesn't mean they are getting much starch. Starch is much lower in the younger seeds.

Lavinia,
thank you so much... I am heartbroken, as I've tried to be so diligent in having a farrier come every four weeks to trim because he grows so much hoof... I rely on the farrier to know what

Hi Karen,
Yes, ALL the feet have toes that are too long, in the hinds it is just more subtle.
The long toes in the front slow the break over time, so they don't get out of the way of his hind feet

Re: metformin for a second try?
Jesse's case history has been updated. Updates include
Prevacox (single dose on 2015-05-16) for inflammation of the eye. And started triple antibiotic ointment without steroids for the Eye.

Re: High glucose - Hock injections
Hypothyroidism does not cause a stiff gait.
As just posted, I would ask her if she's willing to block the front feet to see if that changes movement.

Return to a significant amount of daily exercise would be the best thing. Metformin isn't a long term fix but would be indicated if he has foot tenderness - which often masquerades as hock pain. I
