Flax seed oil capsules
Has anyone tried flax seed oil capsules in their horses' ration?
My mare seems to be sensitive to the lignin in the flax seed itself, so I've used the oil. Since I board, I would like to make it

Nancy,
Thank you so much for your thoughts and suggestions. I have talked to my vet regarding sending labs to Cornell, but her hesitancy is due to the distance the blood needs to go. I will ask

Dr. Kellon, as I have said I'm not big on messing with another hormone feedback system like the thyroid. I was just wondering some argue its not just about the weight loss but the reduction of fat

You're welcome, Regina.
Excellent that Smokey is feeling comfortable :)
Your farrier sounds like a good one - he's willing to consider other options so that means he is willing to learn and that

Thanks to Lavinia
Lavinia, I really appreciate you taking the time to do what you've done for Smokey. It's keeping my farrier on his toes while bringing Smokey's. He took home the print out of everything you said and

Re: Spiritt's Case History
Blood pull will be as soon as I can coordinate with our vet. Right now Spiritt is getting 1.05mg pergolide & I do have some 0.5 mg left that I could add.
Noticed her WBC was high but didn't know if

Re: questions re: IR and Cushings
Yes, some horses reach the point where their numbers do not show IR, but many do not and with an 11.4 uIU/mL insulin the risk of laminitis is extremely low **if** you continue the same management.

Hi Karen
Great job on your Case History!
It is not unusual for vets to want to continue the Thyrol-L. A lot have members have found through addressing any correctly diagnosed issues like PPID, diet

Hi, Nichola, and welcome to the list! I am sorry your boy is having issues, but you are in the right place to learn how to help him.
It is great that you are going to test for Cushing’s (PPID);
