Is flax and magnesium still needed for my IR horse?
Fortunately Majestic's laminitis is under control for now. He's not showing signs of lameness but I'm keeping his weight down by feeding low starch/sugar mixed grass hay and California Trace minerals

Regarding white salt ... I feed two tablespoons of loose white salt, per horse, daily, mixed with California Trace minerals and all together in soaked bermuda hay pellets.
Should the salt be iodized

Re: Salt Lick
Iodized salt blocks are probably not very reliable because iodine in salt sublimates over time. Unless the loose salt is very high purity and well protected that's not going to be a reliable source

Yes, it's definitely possible. For example, egg-laying decreases at certain times of the year.
It depends on the horse.

There is one company, "Champion's Choice" that makes "livestock" salt products. They do produce loose (granular) iodized salt sold in 50 lb bags and iodized 50 lb blocks. Tractor Supply stores carry

Re: Triple Crown being bought by Purina
Hi, Patty - Here is the straight dope: ESC plus starch must be less than 10%. Starch packs a big wallop, so must be less than 4.5% (less for sensitive horses).
You can see the list of safe feeds

My vet recently told me to do fecal tests and not to continue worming regularly unless it is indicated by the tests. I just did the tests and all my guys were negative. I imagine she will want me to
