I'm wondering if all the time of day, lack of water does not apply to native grass. Here in the California Foothills once the rains stop late Winter/early Spring the grass dries up, it is 'natural'

Orchard grass can be fine. The sugars and starch numbers are determined by several factors. Time of day when it's mowed - The earlier the better. "Sugars" retreat down into the roots
