Re: Hidding Prascend
Hi Maria, Prunes (dried plums) work very well too. You can shove the pill into the prune where it remains completely hidden. Relevante was wild for them.

Hidding Prascend
I need to hide the dose od Prascend in something very very easy to give for the caretakers of Yayo that doesn't get spoiled and can be stored.
A small piece of a carrot or apple would get oxidized

Re: 2nd try please. Plutón diagnosed PPID too
Hi Lavinia,
Thank you so much for your reply. I also considered a positive for PPID but not long ago I think I read that older horses had a natural higher ACTH so I was a bit confused about if maybe

Re: 2nd try please. Plutón diagnosed PPID too
Hi Maria,
ACTH 142 pg/ml up to 53 this time of the year
Glucose 91 mg/100ml up to 110
Insulin 12.68 uU/ml up to 30
Sorry this somehow got missed.
With an ACTH of 142pg/ml, that is definitively

Re: More fiber in manure
Thanks a lot Laura 😍. The hay is feed over shavings at night in the stall and in the morning and evening he is in a big paddock shared with about 10 horses more and fed over the sand and manure

Re: let me see if I got this straight....
Hi Susan,
Why is the vet pulling a glucose test? It is insulin and ACTH that are the ones you really need to know. Glucose by itself won't tell you much as most horses don't have elevated glucose

Re: More fiber in manure
Maria, how is the hay fed? If the hay is placed in a container of some sort, maybe the caretakers would at least pour some water over the hay. Or if it's in a net maybe dunk it in water for a short

Re: Does the seasonal rise affect IR?
The test was when he was on 1mg. I raised it over time to 1.5, at which point his peeing and drinking are fairly normal. That is the main PPID symptom I'm working from. Hope that helps.

May I ask for some clarification on these questions please? I am a bit confused about if the high ACTH might be to some extent mirroring a natural higher elevation at his age or is it clearly all due

Hi Ingrid,
Her other values may well correct significantly once the PPID is controlled. See how she's doing on 1 mg pergolide before deciding on further medication. I'd retest ACTH, insulin, glucose

I also like to squirt the liquid E oil onto the feed - in absence of hand tools I usually just nip a gel cap end with my teeth and then squirt out the contents. I eat the empty gel caps myself, like
