Re: seem Flax
Is the flax ground, Reta? I have always used whole flax, ground just before feeding, and it has always stayed fresh. I buy it at Bulk Barn or at a feed store.

Re: IR/Cushingoid horsekeeping in the Los Angeles area?
Alanna,
Boarding in the LA area is a nightmare at best and worse if you have a special needs horse. You will need to decide how far a commute you're willing to put up with and you will need to test

I like the idea of leaving them behind until you find the right place. In my experience a private person taking care of less than eight horses is ideal.

Lorna, I'm currently waiting to see if I get an offer for the job and if the offer is a good one. If so, I'd be moving in 1-2 months. There are tons of barns in the area, which makes things harder

Re: IR/Cushingoid horsekeeping in the Los Angeles area?
I agree with Martha. You would have much better luck finding a good boarding situation for you two horses without moving them to the LA area. Prices for board and hay is crazy high in that area.

Re: Question about the starch in hay
Vicki, the group has used 4% as a threshold for a while for starch content in feedstuffs. Different horses will tolerate more starch than others, some members here have horses that can't go that high.

Hello,
Can someone help me understand a little bit more about the hay and its starch and sugar levels.
I know we need to keep the combined starch and sugar for hay at 10% or under.
Is there a level

Re: Updated CH
Not a problem. Thank you, I currently have boots and pads, only a short distance from field to stable without.
would you still advise minimal grazing at this point?
