We don't recommend doing labs after sedation as that can skew the results.

Re: Recurring Laminitis & Ertugliflizin
Hi Karen,
I agree with testing ACTH, and non fasting insulin and glucose at the same time. A draft-TB cross is a very unlikely combination for having EMS at baseline, although I'm sure it's possible.

Re: Ava's update - insulin, glucose, and TG on Invokana with L-car and increased feed
No, NSAIDs are not advised while on Invokana, too risky for kidney/liver damage.

Re: Zinc sulfate monohydrate and Copper sulfate pentahydrate
This is probably one of those ignorance is bliss situations. The lead is OK but iron and cadmium give me pause. Since horses live so much longer than other farm animals I always use human guidelines

Re: Zahr Update: Insulin and glucose results
Ah, I didn't realize that it would last overnight dissolved in a syringe, that is super handy. Thank you both for the advice on that!

Shockingly LOW Insulin
Andy's last bloodwork test results came back. Glucose and ACTH were a little high at 139 and 57 respectively, but his insulin was 3.46! Could this be a mistake? He's never had an insulin reading below

Re: Zahr Update: Insulin and glucose results
Hi Michaela and Sherry,
I would divide the tablet in half along the break line and add one of the halves to a small measured amount of water, say 4ml. Mix well and then draw up half of that amount

Re: Getting off Prascend with the same vet that put him on it
Hi Kimberly,
Your case history does not have any bloodwork for 2017 in it. In 2018 Mouse's ACTH was 19.8 which would indicate that his PPID was well controlled on the current dose of Prascend.

Please send all the feeding details and the link to the analysis to my kellon@....

Re: Feeding tips for overweight/laminitis prone horses
Hi Angela,
You can feed 3x a day and the horses will be fine. Just because they're not eating every second of the day doesn't mean that there's no food making its way through their digestive systems.

Re: Updated Trim Pictures and Case History
Hi Jamie,
If Metformin doesn't work then we look at the other medication options but the first 3 ways to reduce insulin are:
Diet
Exercise (when possible)
Reduce ACTH if that is elevated as it may be
