Re: Heat Cycle and supplements to help
Patti, I just wanted to say I totally feel for you and Dancer. Summer and I had the same going on for the last three years in escalating events and we opted to do an ovarectomy.

Hi Patti,
Why do you think Dancer is still laminitic now? Is she still overweight? Still unwilling to move? Have you had her bloodwork checked recently? If she's an IR horse who's not actively

Hi Karen
I would definitely test for endophyte, but if possible, I'd be looking for another hay. Not what you want to hear, I know.
Dr Kellon has posted studies showing why Fescue is not a good idea

Re: Excessive Salt Consumption
Thank you, Dr. Kellon. Why, then, is she licking it up so much? Is there something else missing in her diet or does she just like the taste or what? Thanks again.

Re: Metformin if not in pain?
If Oden is sound, I would hold off on metformin. For most horses, it loses effectiveness over time so is best reserved for an emergency/ rescue situation. Increase exercise if you can.

With older TBs, or older stallions in general, it's almost always PPID causing the metabolic issues.

Metformin if not in pain?
Oden's insulin is 93 ulU/ml despite a good diet and decent (light) exercise. I have started him on Metformin.
I find Metformin extremely difficult to work with.
I know Oden is in the danger zone

Excessive Salt Consumption
Atticus will leave my training, especially if it’s for his exercise, to go lick loose salt. He lives in a paddock 24/7 and gets 2 T. salt/day. He didn’t leave me today as we worked around

Hi Karlee. Welcome! You are in the right place to help your horse. Getting the diagnosis in place has to be the first priority- and then the rest of the process and pieces of the puzzles begin to fit

Hi Cecile,
You can use Laminox and Phytoquench. Re: Laminitis Spike (groups.io) for reference.

Hi Karlee,
You'll be getting a full welcome message shortly but the best way for you to help us is to get a case history started (information on that was already sent to you and you can read more

Re: Booting problem - pain at the back of the hoof?
We’re doing what Sherry describes with one addition. The pad is inside a premie diaper. We close the tabs at the front of the hoof and at the heels. This forms a sock. Then vetwrap and finally duct
