Jean you can use Guar Gum to thicken liquids to something that is a consistency of syrup. You can also flavor it with a "better" taste like peppermint oil. Perhaps this would help make your supplement

1 - if you have it on hand, restart the Metformin at the 30mg/kg 2x a day rate. You do not need to wait to restart it so get her on that ASAP.
