Re: high iron hay options - Fe = 1,250 ppm
Hi Hilary
Did you test this hay or was it the grower? You can call the lab and ask for retest. When things are this high, however, it can often be that a plug of dirt was hit in a given bale. If you

Lou and I thank you!
There are several people that offered good advice on helping Lou...one common piece of advice was to treat him for ulcers...Here is a 25 day transformation of him on Abprazole ulcer medication

Re: stem cell patch
Suzy,
You have not seen results because you were not treating the PPID. The things you mentioned cannot be effective if there is untreated PPID. Because you started pergolide so late in the seasonal

I am just saying the diet and herbs and amino acids and what not, I have not seen anything work.
The blood work is just insulin and ACTH. I just started him on the pergolide based on the September

All I am saying is all the herbs and diet have not worked. What do you mean supplement is not appropriate? The mineral or the supplement I give to add the vitamin e and other herbs when I am giving.

Hi Lori,
edited to add: I just took a look at the photos and, to me, it looks like you are heading the right direction on a major project. I worked my way back to Lavinia’s markups and it appears

Re: high iron hay options - Fe = 1,250 ppm
Hi Hilary. I would avoid the high iron one and go with the grass/alfalfa. However, if your horse gets foot sore with alfalfa- then that is something to consider as well, but I'm sure you know that.

Thank you all for your response! I’ll work on getting his case history filled out.
Now that I think of it, I don’t think the vet did the TRH Stimulation test this year. She just did the Equine

high iron hay options - Fe = 1,250 ppm
We were hoping to get this teff hay shipped in for Jack. It's the lowest ESC+starch of any hay locally.
I just received the wet chem analysis and it has 1,250 ppm iron. I've not dealt with high iron

Re: Updated x-rays and where to go from here
I just want to add, Zahr did show a very positive response to his first trim based on mark ups. He started to slow down about a week and a half later, which is when I decided to triple his pergolide.

Re: Meal feeding before blood draw - clarification
Correct, the hay takes until 8 am to finish, not the soy hulls which are gobbled in 1 minutes or so.
So the guidance is: don't draw blood until 4 hours after breaking the fast/starting to eat?

Thank you, Dr. Kellon. It should be his left front that has the white dot in the thin-soled area. On his right fore the old frog is so stretched out that it ends where his breakover begins (literally:

30% would be 8.19%. Should be ok, but if he's sensitive you might need to soak.

Re: Metformin palatability help
Lesley my understanding is the water only softens the film coating on the outside which then makes it easy to mash the tablets. The film coating covers the horrid bitterness which is on the inside.

Lesley,
Every horse is different in how they react. The best way to prevent initial side effects is to use APF, 8 mL/day for the average size horse. If you are doing titration, 4 days is more than

Re: The hay search for Romey
30% higher on ESC would still be in a decent range, though, correct? This is like gold out here-- we had such a drought in mid summer and protein levels are high on a lot!
