Re: Thank you! WE SAVED 2!
Lori, I'm so happy to hear this! Honestly, I've often thought of Mya and how painful she appeared in your photos as recent as August...is she truly walking around again!?! No more abscessing??!!

Re: Lab normal is not normal
Janet,
An insulin less than 40 uIU/ml will NOT cause acute laminitis, but it also does not mean that the horse is negative for IR/EMS. It all depends on testing conditions and what/when they were fed

Michelle, that breakfast is not a "grain" meal and her insulin is still slightly abnormal. I assume she was also given hay for breakfast? Was blood pulled at least 4 hours after she had her first

Re: Decrease in horses energy
I do give her the TC balance cubes 3oz in the morning and 3oz at night used as a carrier for supplements. Should I try beet pulp or just increase the TC cubes? If so by how much? She weighs 658

So, when our lab work comes back from Cornell and they know the horse is IR and they say the normal range is between 20 and 40 and an IR horse falls between those numbers, they are not in a so called

Both ACTH and insulin are borderline. Retest after the rise.

That TRH test is equivocal because of the time of year.

Re: Decrease in horses energy
You are underfeeding her for that level of work. Paradoxically, her insulin may come down some more if you feed her more. If you want to avoid the R/S/R process you could substitute TC Balance/Ontario

Re: Dr. Kellon Sophie bloodwork
Yes, SDMA but not all labs offer it. BUN and creatinine is fine. Blood pressure can be taken with a cuff over the root of the tail.

Re: Steroid induced acute laminitis
A horse with normal insulin sensitivity would show 27 after a grain meal. I don't consider 27 normal for a horse on an IR diet.
It's your decision whether or not to try her muzzled on grass, just know
