Re: Feeding cubes or pellets
Thanks for getting the case history updated, Angie. I understand that Tractor Supply can get timothy balance cubes, although I haven’t bought them there myself. No local feed dealer that carries

Re: Hay fertilized with cow manure vs commercial fertilizers....
I think we will see higher numbers for phosphorus in hay tests for the next few years as farms will use any available manure for fertilizer as the costs of nitrogen granular or liquid fertilizer has

Re: Hay fertilized with cow manure vs commercial fertilizers....
This is a real problem in the dry West as a result of excessive fertilization with manure along with inadequate nitrogen fertilizer and inadequate irrigation or rainfall. We see it in garden soils

Re: Is it safe for Khan try prascend/pergolide (Dr. Kellon please weigh-in thank you)
As I'm sure you have noticed already, bute does little, if anything for the pain of laminitis and it blocks abscess exiting. You should get insulin checked ASAP and if you hay isn't analyzed, soak

Thanks.
A prior sample from different lot, same field, this year showed high phos. Not inverted but nearly or at 1:1 (from memory)
Testing results are in the file:

Hello Angie, you said you updated your case history, but there are no additions for this year that I can see. Did you hit 'save' after you added information?

If you have prior samples showing the same thing, it's real. What are the iron and zinc levels? It has to be from the manure unless there was previous raw phosphorus fertilizer used, which is

Hi Dr Kellon
(Edited to add more detail)
Perhaps we should say not "not optimal".
Here are a few numbers for folks following along.
Just to get to Ca;Phos at 1.2;1 per 18 pounds fed, we'd need to add

Thank you Dr. Kellon. When I was working with Rood and Riddle they mentioned they were having three year olds come in with PPID so I was unsure of how age driven it is still thought to be.

I balance for Trisha. Just in quick to add: the Ca;Phos;Mg is .29;.50;.20.
I have found in the literature where "manure" can be high in phos.

My reply just disappeared so trying again.
Your vet may be thinking of dexamethasone suppression rather than the TRH stimulation. TRH stim is safe and you can do it now.
We're very aware ACTH

Re: TC Timothy Balance Cubes
Hi Laura,
Timothy balance cubes are hay and treated as such as long as they are a part of the normal diet, which is what we try to have the measurements reflect as accurately as possible.

Hi Jessica,
I’m sure Dr. Kellon will weigh in as needed. We often suggest a pergolide trial to see if that helps to solve problems such as you describe. Yes, there are PPID horses which don’t

When testing blood for a non-fasting insulin/glucose,...are TC timothy Balance Cubes considered hay and ok to be eating, or grain and should not be fed before blood work?
