Di, the styrofoam boxes you get at fruit shops or grocers work fine too, and are easily found. Most shops are glad to get rid of them. I cut pieces out of these with a stanley knife. Use the 'Husky'

Thanks Josie, I've put down a load of wood shavings on top of the short grass area. I dont have a stall/stable at all so this is the best I can manage. He does have a soft area in the shade and now
