Doxycycline / pergolide contraindications?
I need to do a trial of doxy on my PPID/IR mare. She's exhibiting symptoms again indicating a possible recurrence/reinfection of Lyme (distinctly different signs than an insulin flareup). My vet & I

Hi Julia,
It's fine to de-worm a horse that's on pergolide. Here's a link to the file with some guidelines:

Re: Hard swollen sheath
Just for the record, I draw and drive my own blood to the clinic.
Stall-side testing would be great but IMO, only if the owner could do it themselves.

Hi Laura,
Just want to chime in with removing shoes. Even if the trim and shoe job are *perfect* right now, when a horse is actively laminitic his hoof care needs can change hours or days from now

Deworm at same time as give Pergolide?
I tried a search but couldn't find a post that said it's safe or not to give Pergolide at the same time I use a dewormer paste. Is it OK to?
Thank-you,
Julia & Luxy in PA

If you feel your insulin is stable and you are not seeing symptoms that might make you want to test it again, testing only ACTH to check PPID control is reasonable.

I hope the mods will comment on the testing reqd? I'm thinking for Jesse, as his insulin, glucose and leptin are quite stable.. and only the acth moves around. perhaps just acth is needed? lj
