In support of Dr. Kellon’s remark about PPIDnot having to be what eventually kills your horse: Alf was on Pergolide for 7years. What eventually killed him was DSLD/ESPA. His ACTH was well-controlled

My 31 year old TWH gelding who has IR/borderline Cushings, has started to eat the bark and needles from the jack pine trees that are along the edge of the dry/lot-outdoor arena-and ALL of my land

PPID does NOT have to eventually be what kills your horse. In fact, when treated with pergolide it is usually something totally unrelated that

There is no way to predict when metabolic laminitis will strike, only to identify horses at risk and that is by insulin and the proxies. You don't have that information.
