My Dakota has many of the same issues as your old friend, but most particularly he has dental problems accompanied by infection (apparently)...this we discovered when his poor appetite improved

Adequan is now available in the U.S. (not sure where you're posting from); I just double-checked with my vet's pharmacy. I tried glycogen when Adequan wasn't being produced, and on my horse, it didn't

Based on what I know about the instability of Prascend once it's been exposed to air you're best off just doing the 1x a day dose rather than trying to split the pill in half and saving

There MAY be a caution with the Polyglycan & IR. One of the ingredients is glucosamine & injectable glucosamine may worsen IR.

Ask your vet about Ichron or Polyglycan. Some of our clients who can't afford Adequan and have switched to Poly have reported good results.
